The Beckoning (Isabelle)

"But perhaps it's not in the asking
For the wait of hearts is measured
not in beats and rests
not in ounces (pounds, oceans)
or what this hand can hold

but in winds that carved the valleys
and the tears that crack lips in their running
like mountains pulled down by rain

blue metal ache
bury the land under snow
prayers on faded paper
tucked resigned into the back pages

"I cannot wait for mountains," I say
"I cannot wait on this
any
longer"

And the Voice answers,
"Then stop waiting"
